Freedom Tower to Host VOGUE

Conde Nast, publisher of The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, Vogue and other publications, is going to move into the Freedom Tower in 2014.  The building will be 108 floors (1776 feet), and is scheduled for completion in 2013 as "One World Trade Center," America's tallest building.  Architect is Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, which also designed Sears Tower, and the Burj Khalifa, currently the world's tallest.  There will be 69 office floors, two restaurants, 55,000 square feet of retail space, and two television broadcast floors.  The building is more stable and eco friendly than its predecessor, with a concrete reenforced sprinkler system and redundant emergency systems.  Nonetheless, it took bravery and courage to restore the site, and the statement made for the world to see is that despite the mistakes we have made, there is still resiliency in the American spirit.  Let's now hope that fear does not blind us with its twin--greed--and that the ideals on which America was founded will themselves be a beacon that inspires respect instead of hatred.
